Blog #4, 4/14 - Failure then Realization
From the time of the last blog to the when this one is being posted, a lot has happened on my journey to becoming Magic Mason. This week specifically started with a lot of set back. As I took the step up from my simple measly card tricks, to bigger more involved ones; I was met with an immediate wall on the very first day. Despite my repeated attempts at a trick, over and over, and then over again, I found myself consistently being one ore two cards off of picking the desired card that my audience had chosen. This definitely created a sink in my magic confidence, but it would not stop me. Either way here is an edit of my failure.
Despite this continuing for the next day or three, I would not give up, as I had a dream and it needed to be accomplished. So I kept on trying and trying, as I wanted to have a solid grounds to base myself on before I left for spring break. And eventually, I had an epiphany at what was going wrong. While playing cards with friends in my creative writing class, we discovered that there was actually 53 cards in my deck and not 52. This means a lot, as some of my tricks were based on a lot of math on how splitting and moving around the cards leaves me with a final result. With that big mystery solved, I could finally move on with my learning.
The rest of the week ended up going pretty smoothly. While I was away I was not able to get a lot of practice done, but did get some work in upon my return. Overall, this week added a little bit of setback, but in the big picture of this project, it wasn't too bad. And if there is something I have learned to share with you guys, it would be to keep working, and count your cards.
